London, England—As part of its recent asbestos-awareness campaign, the British Health and Safety Executive recently announced that 20 United Kingdom residents each year die from the asbestos cancer mesothelioma and similar diseases.

Mesothelioma caused by second hand asbestos exposure is a growing concern among people who came into contact with asbestos through family members or the environment. Many second hand exposure cases are especially tragic because victims were exposed to the carcinogen from a family member who handled asbestos or asbestos containing materials at work.

Treatment options are often determined by the stage of mesothelioma a patient is in. There are three staging systems currently in use for pleural mesothelioma and each one measures somewhat different variables; peritoneal mesothelioma is not staged.

Yoga Bear, a non-profit organization started in 2006, supports the belief that “cancer patients and survivors can benefit from yoga as a complementary treatment in cancer recovery.” The MD Anderson Cancer Center, known for their mesothelioma treatment center, also agrees with this approach offering yoga classes for patients in their cancer center.

Although the surgeon conducting a biopsy procedure may have some opinion as to a possible mesothelioma diagnosis based on the visual appearance of the tumor and the surrounding area, it is necessary for a pathologist to process the sample before a definitive diagnosis can be made.

NEW YORK (Associated Press) – The Justice Department plans to seek a wider investigation into the billing practices of L. Tersigni Consulting PC, a firm that advised asbestos-injury claimants in several big bankruptcy cases.
